Job Description: The HIV Nurse Specialist for the Population Health Unit is responsible to coordinate implementation, monitoring and ongoing evaluation of HIV initiatives across the northern health authorities. The Saskatchewan HIV Strategy aims to reduce the rate of new infections, facilitate access to therapy and treatment; increase quality of life, and decrease discrimination.
The HIV Nurse Specialist works closely with staff of the northern Population Health Unit and three health authorities; primary care providers; community partners; the Ministry of Health and other sectors; southern health regions; and First Nations agencies. The HIV Specialist reports jointly to the Population Health Unit Deputy Medical Health Officer for various clinical aspects of practice and to the Director for administrative and some programming related aspects
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
A Bachelors Degree in Nursing
Basic Life Support Certificate
Registration with the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association (SRNA).
Possession of a drivers license valid in Saskatchewan.
Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in primary care, public/community health nursing, and/or related experience in which leadership, ability and competence in practice have been demonstrated.
Experience working with clients with HIV, sexually transmitted infections or blood borne pathogens in a clinical or community setting, and with marginalized populations engaged in at-risk behavior considered an asset.
