Description

As a seasonal member of our Canola Breeding Group, you will be responsible for completing operational tasks relating to field evaluation of plant breeding materials and germplasm. Positions beginning in early March to late April and extending until the end of August or end of October are available. There is a possibility to extend positions depending on business needs. Multiple positions are available.
Full Job Description
Located in Saskatoon, SK or Watrous, SK and reporting to the oilseeds breeding technical staff or agronomists, you will be responsible for completing operational tasks relating to small plot field trials.
You will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
    Providing assistance with tasks relating to the establishment of nurseries, which may include:
o    Seed bed preparations
o    Allocating seed to nursery programs and seed treatment
o    Seeding of small plot nurseries
o    Establishing tented seed production nurseries
    Providing assistance with tasks relating to the maintenance of field nurseries, which may include:
o    Operating small plot equipment such as tractors, sprayers and tillage tools to complete tasks such as spraying or cultivation
o    Taking accurate and precise agronomic notes on small plot field trials
o    Assisting the technical staff and plant breeders with other duties as required
    Providing assistance with tasks relating to the harvest and cleanup of field nurseries, which may include:
o    Operating a small plot combine or swather
o    Fall land preparation including application of herbicides and fertilizer
Skills/Experience
Required:
    Punctual, reliable and able to work outdoors
    A high level of attention to detail resulting in consistent outcomes
    Proven problem-solving abilities in team and individual settings
    Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills
    A valid Class 5 drivers license
