The Physics Technician is responsible for performing a variety of duties related to the preventative maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, testing of Radiation Therapy Equipment. This may require design, and fabrication of complex electro-mechanical equipment. The aim is to ensure maximum availability of equipment for clinical use. This position reports to the Co-director of Medical Physics with daily work supervised by the Chief Physics Technician (Electronics).
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Diploma in Biomedical Engineering Technology or Electronics Engineering Technology. Technical maintenance courses in High Energy Medical Linear Accelerators, CT Simulators and Orthovoltage treatment units are an asset.
Experience: Two (2) years previous experience in the maintenance and repair of medical linear accelerators or related equipment.
Skills:
Ability to design, fabricate, maintain and repair electronic equipment in a timely manner.
Ability to be designated as Nuclear Energy Worker as per Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) regulations.
Expertise in using computer electronics applications.
Considerable judgment and problem solving ability is required to identify, analyze and define problems and select the most appropriate solution to rectify them.
Ability to interpret detailed information and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Human relations skills required to ensure compliance and promote acceptance through negotiating with staff and/or suppliers where there is a requirement to resolve the conflict or situation.
Ability to perform fine motor movements for making fine adjustments and repairs to computer circuit boards, using small hand tools, manipulating small mechanical parts and data entry.
