Description

Our shifts are either 7am-10am or 5pm-10pm, seven days a week. The position offers 8-20 hrs/wk. Availability for all shifts necessary. Currently there is a greater need for 5pm-10pm shifts and weekends.

The Emergency Shelter Worker will have had some exposure, knowledge, and training as it relates to homelessness issues. There will be a demonstrated level of compassion in working with marginalized population groups and will feel comfortable working with individuals who may have diminished cognitive or emotive abilities.

Job Duties Include:
1) All interactions with shelter guests will be rooted in dignity of person conveying their worth and value.
2) The shelter would be clean, organized, and presentable at all times. All supplies will remain inventoried and adequate supplies kept on hand. All related administration and records would remain up to date and accurate.
3) Given the nature of rescue and emergency services work there may be incidents that require extra attention from time to time. Due to various circumstances, the Emergency Shelter Worker may need to call emergency services such as police, or mobile crisis.
4) The Emergency Shelter Worker will be responsible to complete all check-in and check-out requirements for each shelter guest.
5) The Emergency Shelter Worker will need to enforce the shelter protocol requirements of all shelter guests.
6) The Emergency Shelter Worker will need to ensure that the cleanliness procedures of the shelters are maintained at a high standard.
7) The Emergency Shelter Worker will need to make sure that assigned chores to the shelter guests are being assigned and carried through with. On the morning shift the requirement will be to check-out all shelter guests according to the protocol and then make sure the shelter rooms are cleaned. On the evening shift the requirement will be to check-in all shelter guests according to the protocol and also to coordinate supper (which is provided by our Soup Kitchen).
