Description

This position works to provide emotional support to the Indian Residential School survivors through the adjudication process.  The IRS support worker will work collaboratively with all relevant support programs and services available and accessible to IRS claimants.  The individual will provide outreach services within the STC communities and within Saskatoon. A focus will be linking claimants to culturally appropriate and/or contemporary therapeutic services so a positive result can be attained through addressing and resolving outstanding issues related to the Residential School and inter-generational experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Arrange appropriate support for IRS claimants during all phases of the resolution process with a focus on the litigation processes as needed;
Identify claimant support needs which can be addressed through the IRS Mental Health Support Program;
Provide counseling services to clients upon intake or referral
Provide outreach services for client support and programming;
Utilize a process to refer and follow-through for IRS claimants to existing community services and supports;
Where possible, ensure claimants understand their right to bring a support person to their hearing session, such as an Elder;
Respond to claimants in distress and refer them to the IRS Help Desk, and/or National IRS Crisis Line);
Respond to calls from Resolution Managers and outreach staff, plaintiffs counsel, Adjudication Secretariat staff, and other allied services;
Prepare activity reports, provide administrative/procedure/protocol feedback with respect to the program;
Network with other organizations, as appropriate;
Maintain confidential client files; and
Must have the flexibility to travel to communities in the catchment area.
