Summer Student Job Summer Student Job

Description

The CLS is recruiting a post-secondary student to work from May 2, 2016 to August 31, 2016 in the Systems Technology group related to software development on the Acquaman project.
The Software group within Systems Technology manages scientific software used by scientists on beamlines and web applications for corporate services at the CLS. The Acquaman project is a data acquisition and management system designed to offer custom interfaces to individual beamlines and common tools to users across beamlines. The successful applicant can expect to gain experience by working on the existing issue list  focusing mainly on bug fixes and small feature requests. With demonstrated aptitude, more ambitious and challenging projects may be an option; though the future direction will be based on the applicants interests and desired professional development.

Responsibilities:

Work to reduce the number of issues in the product backlog for the Acquaman framework
Take initiative with the refactor of a history view for reviewing previous scans
Extend the tools used for our project management system using GitHubs REST API
Participate in the process of developing the Acquaman framework API while adhering to the expected programming conventions
Possibility of further opportunities for self-driven work on the Acquaman Framework API and issue resolving

Qualifications: Applicants should be entering one of their final two years of study in a B.Sc. program, likely Engineering or Computer Science. Experience in C++ programming in a Linux environment is a necessity, while experience in the Qt development package is a definite benefit. Knowledge and experience with control versioning systems such as git, SVN, etc. would be an asset. Experience with event-based programming would also be valuable. The Acquaman project broadly follows the philosophies of agile programming, so experience in or awareness of this paradigm is also advantageous.
