Description

The Department of Indigenous Studies at the University of Saskatchewan invites applications for a full-time, tenure-stream faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor with specializations in Cree language and cultural history. This will be an Academic Programming (AP) appointment with duties focussed primarily on teaching. Applicants will normally have a PhD in Indigenous Studies or a relevant interdisciplinary PhD, although alternative credentials for an AP appointment may be considered where these are appropriate to the duties and expectations of the position.

We are seeking a scholar who has experience in both oracy-based immersion and linguistic approaches to Cree language instruction. The candidate is expected to incorporate traditional Cree knowledge (Cree philosophies and worldviews, land-based knowledge, histories, and cultural expressions), knowledge translation, linguistic analyses, experiential learning and research practices into their teaching and research; and have demonstrated commitment to Indigenous community engagement. Experience with distance education technology is an asset. The successful candidate will teach the Cree language curriculum and other courses at the undergraduate level, lead the Cree language curriculum renewal process, develop new curriculum, and provide collegial contributions to the department, students and faculty in areas of Cree language and culture.
