Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations, the Accountant is an in-scope position primarily responsible for supervising all accounting operations and staff. The Accountant's duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Supervising and evaluating accounting staff; training new staff; coordinating the workflow of the accounting unit; supervising the operations in the accounting department which includes accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll; producing the annual financial statements and notes for audits; coordinating a well-organized annual audit; analyzing financial data and generating financial reports for various agencies (i.e. Federal and Provincial governments, funding agencies); and other duties as required.
The minimal qualifications for the position are a Bachelor's Degree majoring in Accounting and two years of related experience which include a complete fiscal year of the accounting cycle. Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles and their application, proven organizational skills, and excellent written and verbal communications skills are required. Experience managing and evaluating people is also necessary.
Working under the direction of a CPA, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply for financial support, through our Education fund, to assist them in achieving their accounting designation.
Hours of Work: Office; 34.5 hours per week
Salary: $31.51 - $37.55 per hour, depending on experience
