Description

This position is dependent on Funding from the government.
The Souris Valley Museum is seeking a Curatorial Assistant to help provide a positive and informative experience to all museum visitors. The museum is a seasonally operated regional history museum. The successful candidate will work alongside the Director/Curator for the duration of the summer.
Duties can include, but not limited to:
1. Act as an aid to the Director/Curator with all collections management activities such as cleaning, storing and labelling artifacts, as well as photographing and data entry.
2. Answering visitor and public inquiries on the Museums collection and local history.
3. Assisting with the day-to-day operations, educational activities, programs, projects and special events of the Museum.
4. General cleaning and maintenance of artifacts, Museum and its grounds.
5. Answering emails and phones, taking bookings and serving as a public liaison.
Qualifications:
Required:
1. Good written and verbal communication skills.
2. Knowledge of Canadian and/or Saskatchewans history.
3. Organized and detail-orientated with the ability to follow established filing systems.
4. Proficient with computers and digital cameras.
5. Ability to perform physical tasks
6. Comfortable working with the public of all ages and backgrounds.
7. Able to work independently.
8. students who are under 30 and currently enrolled in full-time studies, and will return to those full-time studies in the fall, and who meets the rest of YCW eligibility requirements.
Desired:
1. Prior experience working in a museum, art gallery or library.
2. Prior experience working with children.
3. Experience performing accurate research.
4. Post-Secondary courses completed in one or more of the following areas: Museum Studies, History, Art History, Archaeology, Anthropology, Library Studies, Marketing, Photography, Education, Visual Arts and/or related field.
