The Pasture Rider 1 is a program support position that is directly supervised by the Pasture Supervisor with overall accountability to the ELR Manager and/or the Director of Operations. Must possess the ability to operate a range type livestock operation. Is directly responsible for following the seasonal work plan by performing physical labor tasks in respect to fence, equipment, building repairs and maintenance. Must possess necessary skills for erecting and maintaining a quality fence line and able to manage a horse for the purpose of handling stock. Will be responsible for ensuring compliance and awareness of established policies, procedures and practices of the Sakimay First Nations. Be aware of land policies, codes and practices to ensure efficient utilization of pasture land. Will assist the Pasture Supervisor in regular reporting of stock control and identifying irregularities regarding the same. Qualifications required are: possess basic knowledge of effective pasture procedures techniques, and stock management. At least 2 years of practical experience. Understanding of how a pasture program is operated. Follow a work plan as well as to utilize preventative maintenance techniques and completion of equipment log books. Knowledge and ability to identify sick stock. Excellent communication skills to deal effectively with supervisor, fellow employees, patrons and general public. Able to work under pressure to meet deadlines, time management skills. Physical ability to perform tasks as well as the skill to handle a horse. Able and willing to work flexible hours and be on call in case of emergencies. Must possess a valid drivers license in order to operate pasture equipment. Ensure that confidential matters remain confidential. Must possess adequate stock and tack to perform required duties. Willing to submit pre-employment drug screening prior to employment. English is essential, read, write and speak fluently.
