Royal West Early Learning Centre invites applications for the position of Early Childhood Assistant Summer Student. We are a 34 space center that serves teen parents and other families with children ages 2 weeks through five years. Our philosophy embraces the belief that children develop best by exploring the world around them at their own pace. Our curriculum emphasizes individual creativity and positive social interactions through play and emergent curriculum/project work. The Early Childhood Educator will ensure that our mission and program philosophy are incorporated into all aspects of working with children and families
Minimum requirements:
Experience with young children
Current First Aid and CPR
Well developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of differing cultural and racial backgrounds,
High level of professionalism, confidentiality and diplomacy
Patient, warm, energetic, flexible, sensitive and responsive
Clear and Current Criminal Records check and Vulnerable Sector Search
Ability to work a shift within centre hours of 7:30 am to 5:30 pm.
Our Centre provides a supportive, stable environment that allows Early Childhood Educators to explore new ideas and visions for early childhood education.
The position is from May 16th to September 2nd. It is a summer position only. You must be returning to school in the fall to qualify for this position.
Compensation: Starting Wages - Depending upon qualifications and experience .

Early Childhood Education Skills
- Provide opportunity for creative expression through the mediums of art, dramatic play and music
- Provide supervision and guidance of daily activities, field trips and special activities
- Prepare progress reports and discuss with parents and other staff members
- Assess the developmental level of children
- Knowledge of licensing regulations
Additional Skills
- Maintain day care supplies and equipment

- Assist in maintaining records of children
Early Childhood Educator Assistant Skills
- Prepare craft materials and assist children to use them
- Prepare and serve snacks
- Observe children and report on observations to supervisor
- Guide children in development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits
- Conduct and monitor activity programs designed for young children
- Bathe, diaper and feed infants and toddlers
- Arrange transition periods such as lunch and rest for children
