Reporting to the Environment Supervisor, this position is responsible for the following duties:
- Conduct the Environmental Monitoring Program in accordance with Federal and Provincial operating license requirements
- Conduct the field portions of the environmental monitoring program
- Follow procedures and work instructions for environmental sampling
- Ensure equipment is well maintained and properly calibrated
- Assist in the preparation of weekly, monthly, and annual reports
- Assist in the operation of landfills, HSWDG facilities and lay down areas
- Prepare and provide environmental awareness training to other departments and contractors
- Assist in maintaining comprehensive master files of all environmental data and operational records
- Ensure adherence to the Environment Code of Practice
- Ensure the integrity of the environmental monitoring data through maintenance of standard sampling protocols, sample preparation protocols, shipping protocols, critical examination, interpretation of data, and the maintenance of the environmental database
- Be instrumental in attaining department goals and objectives
- Assist with operation of potable water plants
Skills and Qualifications for the position include:
- An Environmental Technician Diploma or equivalent
- 3-5 years experience as an environment technician or equivalent role, including knowledge of sampling techniques and equipment operation and calibration
- Candidates with more or less education and experience may be considered
- Candidates must be comfortable working in remote, isolated locations
- Must have good communication skills
- Working knowledge of standard computer programs is essential
- Experience at mining operations preferred
- Must be physically fit
- Experience operating snow machines, boats, and all-terrain vehicles is an asset
