Description

MLTC is seeking an individual to fill the term position of Health Benefits Navigator for the Health & Social Development Department. This position ends March 31, 2017 with the possibility of renewal.

This position will provide case management and referrals within the community and various health systems throughout the continuum of client care.  The Navigator will work within current policy to ensure that the FNIHB NIHB program is fully accessible to the 9 FNs and meet the health needs of the client.  The Navigator will identify policy deficiencies and communicate these deficiencies to NIHB for consideration. The Navigator will ensure that the cultural and traditional needs of the patient are an equally important factor when providing navigation services.

Qualifications:

- Must possess a recognized health related diploma/degree (i.e. Health Care Administration, Business Management, Social Work, Licensed Practical Nurse, Registered Nurse).
- The candidate must be currently registered to practice with appropriate licensing body if applicable.
- Possess a minimum of five (5) years of First Nation Health Management/Administration experience.
- Knowledgeable of all levels of government and the services they provide; Knowledgeable of Health Canada's Non Insured Health Benefits program and policies.
- Possess excellent interpersonal, time-management, and organizational skills; strong listening, specific counseling and assessment skills; excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in computer software/hardware applications and programs.
- Knowledgeable and sensitive to First Nations' culture and beliefs; issues and barriers.
- Ability to fluently speak and understand the Cree and/or Dene language(s) is considered a valuable asset.
- Able to work independently and within a multi-disciplinary team and be willing to travel extensively.
