Duties:
Oversee and coordinate day to day operation, maintenance and safety of all public works functions.
Supervise, mentor, train and manage performance of staff within the department.
Develop and implement a coordinated plan of routine maintenance and upkeep of property, grounds and equipment.
Develop long term plans for equipment replacement, street maintenance and utility upgrading.
Provide written and verbal reports to the public works committee at regular meetings.
Work with the public and community groups to respond to inquiries, address concerns and ensure the betterment of the community.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have a valid drivers license, experience managing staff and budgets, experience operating large equipment and experience in the public works sector or a related sector. The candidate will also have or be willing to obtain a Level 1 Water Distribution Certificate, pesticide certification, safety training and basic experience with welding, carpentry, plumbing, metal fabrication and mechanical repair. Physical capability to lift heavy objects, operate heavy machinery and computer literacy are required. The successful candidate must possess strong leadership and communication skills, work well in a team environment, be customer focused, and be community minded.
