Founded in 1976, the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) was created to provide post-secondary education for First Nations people and is one of the first post-secondary institutes in Canada to be fully governed by First Nation leaders.
The Dean, Trades and Industrial, is a key position that sets the strategic direction of courses and programming for the department. Through academic and administrative leadership, the Dean is responsible for the delivery of market-relevant programs, the guidance of staff and the development of strategic partnerships in a way that fosters an engaging learning environment and enables students to achieve success. They are also responsible for financial planning & management and sustaining positive relationships between faculty, staff and students. With the growing need for skilled workers in the economy, this department plays a key role in advancing training and development opportunities for future leaders.
The ideal individual will bring a minimum of 5-10 years of experience within a senior or leadership capacity within the Trades and Industrial Sectors. A post-secondary degree in Adult Education, Education, Business or any related field as well as experience within a Post-Secondary Institution are considered an asset. The ideal individual will bring knowledge and a strong understanding of First Nations culture and have the ability to set strategic objectives and formulate operational plans to meet Institute goals. As the economy grows and changes, the Dean, Trades and Industrial will need to be adaptable, flexible and stay current on emerging trends. They will also have a knack for building rapport with people to be able to increase industry engagement and build relationships with faculty and students. A valid drivers license and reliable transportation is required as this position does require some travel.
