The Operations & Maintenance Heavy Equipment Operator will be supervised by the Operations & Maintenance Supervisor, with overall accountability to the Kahkewistahaw First Nation Chief & Council. He/She will be responsible for the daily activities and duties consisting of operating AND maintaining the different types of heavy equipment to complete projects of the First Nation. The O & M Heavy Equipment operator will also assist in road maintenance and ground maintenance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must possess valid heavy equipment operators card, valid class 1A endorsement on driver's licence to operate the heavy equipment
Possess valid safety tickets is also preferred
Operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, loaders, semi-units and graders to excavate, move, load and grade earth, rock, gravel or other materials during construction and related activities.
Operate heavy equipment to clear brush and operate to move, load and unload cargo
Ensure that Health and Safety procedures are being followed during working hours and when using equipment
Be able to conduct routine maintenance of all equipment
Be able to inspect, repair and maintain roads on a regular and monthly basis, report defects to supervisor
Communicate well with band membership, Chief and Council, staff, internal and external agencies
Complete projects in timely and efficient manner
Be able to work after hours for emergencies and/or as requested
Punch in and out during working hours, record overtime when required and submit time sheets with time cards on a bi-weekly basis
Other duties as assigned by the O & M supervisor and/or Portfolio Counsellor
