Description

This management position is a newsroom leader, responsible for managing and participating in the preparation, editing, and layout of editorial print and digital content for the Western Producer.

Key Functions:
-assigns, selects and edits copy for The Western Producer
-directs the location and display of all editorial material (including art) in The Western Producer, producer.com and all related publications
-manages staff in accordance with personnel policies, and provides for effective staff development
-manages editors, staff writers (including bureaus), and outside contributors regarding news coverage
-chairs the weekly Editorial Department planning meeting
-co-ordinates newspaper page-organization planning
-contributes editorials, occasional news stories, features and photographs as required

Requirements:
University Arts or Journalism graduate, with supplementary professional development in newspaper design, management and journalism ethics.  Extensive news reporting experience, as well as significant copy editing and layout experience (preferably in InDesign).  Proven ability to lead and manage within a decentralized, team-based work environment.  Demonstrated initiative, judgement, analytical ability and relationship building skills within a union environment.
