Position Description: Herdsman
The Herdsman position will be responsible to assist in the nutrition, preparation, health and general management of cattle for Blairs.Ag Cattle Company based at the Lanigan Blairs.Ag Cattle Co. location.
Roles and Responsibilities
(1) Animal Nutrition be responsible to execute on the nutrition program for all cattle on site, ensuring all animals at the Lanigan location are fed their nutrition program continuously and consistently.
(2) Calving - play an active role in calving cows and caring for cows and newborn calves.
(3) Health ensure all livestock at the Blairs Cattle Co. Lanigan location are vaccinated and treated as per protocols. Ensure regular health monitoring and treatment is completed on all livestock.
(4) Facilities and Equipment to regularly inspect and maintain facilities and equipment in use at Blairs.Ag Cattle Co. To be proactive in communicating when facilities and equipment are in need of repair and general maintenance and to implement a plan as discussed with the direct manager.
(5) Records Management to ensure proper records management are kept with respect to cattle on premises including birth records, breeding records, weights as required, treatments, feeding programs and schedules, tags and tattoos of cattle leaving and receiving as directed.
(6) Breeding Management to assist with the breeding management of cattle from AI, to natural exposure breeding plans.
(7) To play an active role in forage production which could include; operating equipment for haying, greenfeed, or silaging.
(8) To assist with all cattle movement as required.
(9) To assist with customer cattle tours as required.
(10) To assist with other duties as assigned.
