Description

SCYAP Inc. is looking to fill an Art Coordinator position with a socially minded collaborative individual who has the ability and patience to work with marginalized young people in our Urban Canvas Project.

A full-time term position 37.5 hours per week or a half-time position 20 hours per week for 41 weeks with a possibility for extension. Tasks include:
-    Day-to-day mentorship, coaching & support to 12 at-risk youth
-    Daily art instruction including setting up and coordinating 2 exhibitions at local galleries
-    Collaborating with other professional artists to lead youth through production of large-scale public art mural projects
-    Organizing artist talks, studio visits, and other art-related activities
-    Ability to create and deliver life skills workshops
The candidate should possess a BFA or MFA, or a social or psychology degree (with art) or a combination of real life experience and education. You must have outstanding people skills, including exceptional collaborative abilities, patience & strong initiative. A strong passion for both art & working with youth who face barriers to employment. The position involves coaching visual arts, social & personal development skills and employment skills. The ability to develop a sense of individual trust and respect with young people is imperative.

Good writing ability, computer-based communications, and an open attitude are assets.

The ability to "check your ego" is mandatory and you must be able to accept adverse situations and critique without feeling defensive or taking things personally.

A combination of education and experience will also be considered. The successful candidate will possess an exemplary self-motivation level and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment without supervision. History of working with marginalized youth or young adults in a supportive environment such as a community-based agency or group home is an advantage.
