The Regina Public School Board is seeking an Accounting Officer for a 1 year temporary contract.
Duties:
- Create and maintain purchase orders verifying account codes to determine their validity, appropriateness and impact on budgetary commitments.
- Provide follow up on outstanding purchase orders.
- Support purchase card requirements including processing card requests, maintaining purchase card database, verifying account information, analyzing and reviewing transactions for appropriateness and impact on budgetary commitments.
- Provide support and training to Kev School Cash users.
- Prepare journal entries and year-end financial reports as required.
- Prepare monthly reconciliations.
- Support tendering processes including maintaining records of request issues, proposals received and tenders awarded.
- Analyze purchasing practices and make recommendations to create efficiencies and enhance effectiveness of procurement activities.
- Position may be assigned duties in purchasing and accounting.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Grade 12 education or equivalent.
- Post-secondary education with a minimum of four accounting classes including Intermediate Financial and Management Accounting or equivalent. Certificate preferred.
- Experience with purchasing or procurement, accounts receivable and accounts payable processes is an asset.
- Detailed knowledge and experience with computerized accounting systems (Oracle Financial Systems preferred).
- Good keyboarding skills and proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet applications; preferably Word and Excel.
- Previously demonstrated reliability and initiative.
- Accuracy and attention to detail is essential.
- Possess superior communication skills and a pleasant telephone manner.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Proven record of confidentiality.
