Description

The Street Culture cook must provide nutritious meals and snacks to the shelter & outreach youth, while also actively engaging youth, practicum students and volunteers with meal preparation and other kitchen related skills. The cook will seek out deals to help stay within the allotted budget provided.  This position is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment and managing food inventory and meal preparation. The cook will also assist and support other agency programs with any food related events and activities.

Requirements:
-Ability to be able to function independently and maintain self-sufficiency with minimal supervision;
-Training: CPR/First-Aid (B), Safe Food Handling, WHMIS Training, OH & S Training;
-Strong interpersonal skills;
-Positive youth role-model-leading by example;
-Valid Drivers License with clean driving record.

Primary Responsibilities include, but not limited to:  
-Prepare a nutritious and delicious afternoon snack for the shelter & outreach youth;
-Prepare a nutritious and delicious supper for the evening team support staff to serve to the shelter & outreach youth;
-Maintain & promote a clean, sanitary kitchen by adhering to sanitation, storage and refrigeration requirements & codes and cleaning equipment;
-Purchase groceries, food commodities, and all other miscellaneous items necessary for food preparation by seeking out deals, buying in bulk, and staying within the budget;
-Follow all posted instructions to ensure each residents special needs are met (special diet, food allergies, etc.);
-Communicate with Coordinator/Supervisor on duty to ensure proper food and supply stock;
-Demonstrate and teach kitchen & cooking skills including: safe food handling, knife handling, planning, food preparation & clean up with the youth;
-Prepare healthy and hearty soups for Soup in the Park (SIP);
