Key Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the NCO i/c RIIU, performs intelligence monitoring duties for the Regina Police Service.
(1) Listens to and records conversations on targeted telephone lines to obtain information pertinent to an investigation, determines relevancy of calls, identify targets, target lifestyle patterns, target associates, family structure, pertinent phone numbers, etc.
(2) Transcribes conversations verbatim and relays information to investigators for immediate action (when necessary).
(3) Operates electronic intercept equipment, recording logs of records, files and tapes.
(4) Transcribes/types recorded conversations for court presentation in accordance with policy, procedures and law relative to intercept monitoring.
(5) Operates RPS radio communications equipment.
(6) Testifies in court as required with respect to monitoring duties, security, continuity, transcription and content of documents.
Competencies:
(1) Grade 12 or Grade 12 equivalent.
(2) Familiarity with communications or recording equipment.
(3) Knowledge of terminology, jargon and codes used by the criminal element preferred.
(4) Typing: Minimum 50 wpm.
(5) Dictaphone: The ability to produce accurately transcribed documents.
(6) Computer: The ability to operate an automatic electronic machine in order to input, store and retrieve information.
(7) Listening: The ability to pay attention to in order to recall, repeat and relay what was said.
(8) Must be willing to work shift work with, at times, short notice.
(9) Ability to ensure no breach of secrecy required by law and departmental policy.
