OVERVIEW:
The Student Retention Facilitator (Middle Years) is a specialist providing professional support to school staff focused on best practices to encourage effective student engagement and retention. This individual plays a key role in identifying the effective strategies for classroom applications, including the needs of special education students. The Student Retention (MY) Facilitator assists school administrators in identifying solutions and practices to strengthen school-wide practices.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Identifies, designs and effectively incorporates student retention plans and programs into the learning environment
Collaborates with School Success Planning team colleagues, teachers and other instructional staff to research, design, develop and implement student retention strategies aligned to curricula and the mandate of T4EA.
Models lessons and strategies that emphasize best practices in student retention, with specific emphasis on First Nations approaches (e.g. land-based, experiential learning, incorporation of indigenous and local knowledge, inter-generational learning, community building)
Designs, develops and facilitates staff development, professional development and in-services in the area of student retention
Models effective stewardship of resources and materials, and adheres to and communicates copyright as well as other laws and guidelines pertaining to the distribution and ethical use of all resources
Participates in planning and reflection for personal professional development and actively seeks out opportunities to grow professionally
Actively works to build positive relationships between and among alliance First Nations, their schools, staff, students and community members, and the T4EA
Must hold a valid Saskatchewan teaching certificate, or be eligible to apply for a Saskatchewan teaching certificate, along with several years of classroom teaching experience, preferably with Middle Years (Grades 4-9)
