The University of Saskatchewan invites applications from scholars with a strong research profile for a Tier II Canada Research Chair (CRC) in the field of host:microbial interface with a focus on gastrointestinal tract of food and/or companion animals.
The Department of Animal and Poultry Science, College of Agriculture and Bioresources, invites applications from individuals qualified to develop an active research program investigating interactions between the gastrointestinal microbiome and host animal. Appropriate areas of investigation would include use of cutting edge strategies (e.g. metabolomics, synchrotron imaging) to characterize the complex interface between host and microbiome affecting animal health and performance, food quality, public health or environmental sustainability. Possible disciplinary focus areas could include immunology, nutritional physiology, metabolism, endocrinology, neurobiology or microbiology. Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to integrate various areas, including animal nutrition and management, genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, nutrition and nutrigenomics. Work in this area could lead to the development of novel feed/food additives or nutritional strategies that improve animal health and longevity as well as provide new opportunities for Canadas agri-food sector.
Successful candidates are expected to mount an independent, externally funded research program and to participate in teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
The successful candidate will be appointed to a tenured or tenure-track position at the assistant or associate professor level, commensurate with qualifications. A Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (CRC) nomination will be submitted soon after the appointment. Once successful, the CRC will be awarded for a five-year term which can be renewed once.
