Description

Nakoda Oyade Education Centre/School (NOEC) is seeking a caring, energetic and collaborative Guidance Counsellor.

The NOEC in Sintaluta, Saskatchewan and is located on the Carry the Kettle First Nation. The school is designated K-12 community school with approximately 230 students. Carry the Kettle is located approximately one hour east of Regina, Saskatchewan.

NOEC is seeking a full-time Guidance Counsellor for fall 2016. Reporting to the Director of Education, the successful candidate will be responsible for helping students to manage academic, emotional, and social issues and crises as they occur. Guidance counsellors are familiar with community resources and are in a position to assist students and families with accessing these resources and collaborating with outside agencies when necessary. The Guidance Counsellor will assist students with appropriate academic course and program selection and have considerable knowledge of vocational trends, career preparartion requirements, and training programs.

Candidates must possess a Bachelor of Education degree or Master of Education degree with a major in guidance and counselling, psychology, educational psychology, plus successful counselling experience. Experience at maintaining good working relationships with students, parents/guardians, and all levels of staff within a school system, local and provincial organizations, and with a broad section of individuals and agencies within the local community is necessary. Models a lifestyle that is consistent with the principles of the Nakota people.

Successful candidate will need to have the skills and ability to meet students at a variety of learning levels. The successful candidate should be willing to involve themselves in school wide initiatives and take on extra-cirricular roles as opportunities arise.
