Description

Primary Purpose: As a member of the senior leadership team, the Director of Finance is responsible for providing leadership and strategic advice in areas of financial planning and forecasting, effective financial management, accountability, and internal control.  Supervision of the GIWS financial team (currently includes a Financial Officer and Clerical Staff, however this is expected to grow), as well as providing guidance to the GIWS management team and membership through review, monitoring and analysis of financial data. In addition, this position will be responsible to oversee the budget commitment by our institutional and industry partners.

Nature of Work: Reporting to the Director GIWS, and Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF) Program Director, the Director of Finance is a member of the Institutes senior leadership team, and is responsible for providing strategic advice and patriating in strategy development and execution. The Director of Finance promotes evidence-based financial decision making within GIWS and provides leadership in all financial matters, including financial strategy and planning, forecasting, reporting, and contracts.

This position provides leadership in areas of financial planning and forecasting, effective financial management, accountability, and internal control. The Director of Finance maintains a relationship with the Financial Services Division (FSD) to ensure that the Universitys financial policies and procedures are effectively communicated and applied within the institute. The incumbent also maintains relationships with funding organizations, is a resource to the Director GIWS, and CFREF Program Director, administrative staff and faculty, and is the prime contact with FSD for financial resource management.
