Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Executive Director, or his designate, the Outreach Caseworker will assist in the development, modification, and the evaluation of the Community Outreach Program as they provide direct services for hard to serve youth in care of the Minister.  

Overview of Duties:
Provide stabilization crisis support
Provide incidental problem solving and emotional support to youth
Implement case plans and monitor success
Provides opportunity for youth to share and learn
Provides info and life skills support to clients
Promotes independent problem solving and decision making skills
Encourages/assist youth to practice self-help and non-violent problem solving skills
To partner with local agencies to develop responsive support for youth
Provide advocacy services or teach self-advocacy for youth
Implement non-violent crisis intervention
Report all accidents/injuries/illness and complete reports
Report all incidents of suspected child abuse
Assist in supporting youth in meeting their medical needs
Maintain confidentiality
Perform other duties of a related nature as assigned
Recognize and assess potential risks to the safety and well-being of youth and the community and take steps to reduce risk and de-escalate situations

Qualifications:
Will comply with the designated Risk Management policies of JHSS
Well-developed verbal/written/organizational/time management skills
Willing and able to work shifts, weekends and weekdays
Valid rivers license
First AID and CPR
Suicide Intervention training

Knowledge:
An understanding and commitment to the philosophy, goals, and objectives of JHSS
A familiarity with the problems and characteristics of disadvantaged persons
An understanding of government and community programs and facilities related to youth and their problems
