We are seeking a Practice Group Director (PGD) to join our senior Shared Services team. The incumbent may be located at a Miller Thomson office of their choice.
The Practice Group Director identifies, facilitates and implements initiatives to support the growth and financial success of the selected Practice Group and related Specialty Groups. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, this role is part of the senior Shared Services team, providing support to Practice Group Chairs by handling strategic planning, lawyer productivity, client credit, continued reporting and monitoring of the practice group.
Responsibilities include (but will not be limited to):
Responsible for budgets, forecasting and facilitating management of Practice Group. Act as a key point of escalation within the Practice. Facilitate strategic decision making along with corresponding activities.
Provide support to the Credit Committee regarding lawyer billings/profitability, adherence to firm policy on time recording, budgets, billing targets/rates, monitoring risks associated in managing collections in conjunction with the Accounting department.
To be successful in this role, you possess the following:
An undergraduate degree (Bachelor of Commerce preferred) supplemented by an accounting designation (CPA, CA) or equivalent experience. Strong financial analysis skills are critical. 10 years or more managing people in cross functional teams, in the legal or the professional services industry.
Superior communication skills and organizational skills are a must.
Leadership Skills: A proven track record of working in a matrix professional services environment and building value-add relationships across groups and functions.
Analysis/Problem Solving: An understanding of the performance drivers in a service oriented business, combined with the ability to analyze and align resources to provide optimal support for objectives.
