YWCA is seeking applications for a casual Case Worker for My Aunts Place, as well as our Kikinaw Residence. The Case Worker is responsible for providing practical support to all residents & ensuring the smooth operation of the office. A focus of Case Workers, in cooperation with the rest of the team, is to create & monitor strength based individualized plans with each woman staying in the shelter to help facilitate meeting her needs/goals. This position will be under the direct supervision of the Manager & under the general supervision of the Managing Director of Housing.
Responsibilities:
Provide practical support for all aspects of resident stays;
Provide information, education, & support to the women as needed;
Cooperate with the second Case Worker & front-line staff to create individualized plans for each woman;
Provide referrals & advocacy to ensure that women have necessary supports to deal with barriers regarding housing;
Maintain an orderly & comfortable environment;
Assist with shelter programming;
Answer shelter phone & record all calls, screen requests for entry & respond to information requests;
Complete intake & departure process with each woman/family;
Maintain accurate records in the HIFIS database;
Assist with transportation as appropriate;
Qualifications:
The minimum requirement for the Case Worker is a post-secondary degree or certificate in a related field. Equivalent combination of education & experience will be considered. Must hold a class 5 drivers license, provide a satisfactory criminal record check, with a vulnerable sector check, & have a valid CPR/First Aid (or be willing to obtain).
The successful candidate will have demonstrated understanding of/experience with:
the complex issues of homelessness including addictions, mental wellness, poverty & abuse
responding to crisis situations
good communication & organization skills
respect for cultural diversity & familiarity with issues affecting Aboriginal communities
