The Swift Current Branch Library has been approved to host an IT Youth Intern by the Saskatchewan Youth Initiative Program at Carleton Trail College. These youth internships are fully funded through the Government of Canadas Ministry of Industry. Pay is $13 per hour, issued to the intern by Carleton Trail College.
Youth Initiative Program requirements:
Qualified youth intern applicants must be between 15-30 years, be legally entitled to work in Canada, and must be able to demonstrate some post-secondary in Canada beyond high school.
Applicants cannot be a family member of an employee of the host organization, and cannot currently be receiving Employment Insurance benefits. High school graduates with no further post-secondary education cannot be considered. Previous youth interns also cannot be considered.
Required to obtain Safe Places Certification.
Duties:
This internship has the expectation that the youth intern will acquire new knowledge about library technology and digital skills during the internship
-The youth intern must have endless patience and enthusiasm for helping the public of all ages and abilities to improve their technology skills and to learn new digital skills with their personal devices
-Assists the public with the use of public access computers, photocopier, printer, scanner, 3D printer, as well as various personal mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets & eReaders
-Creates social media library posts, updates website, creates posters and handouts
-Plans and teaches free technology training workshops for the public
-Conducts free one-on-one technology training lessons to the public by appointment at the library
-May lead or assist with technology workshops outside the library around the local community
-Excellent communication skills
-Appreciate the philosophy of inclusive public library service
