Description

Aboriginal Family Court Worker.
ROLE OF FAMILY COURTWORKER:

The position is under the supervision of the Prince Albert Indian Metis Friendship Centre / Saskatchewan Aboriginal Courtworker Program and is responsible for providing culturally appropriate services to families involved in family law and child protection matters.
The Family Courtworker must have the ability or experience working with First Nations & Metis parents, children, family groups, family law professionals and community agencies.
This position requires applicable education and/or work experience suitable for the position.
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL ALSO POSSESS:
Knowledge and experience with family law and child protection matters.
General understanding of the Child and Family Services Act of Sask.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Ability to network and communicate with multiple agencies & community resources
Able to travel and possess a valid drivers license
Criminal & Abuse Records Check to be provided with the application

PROJECT MISSION:
The Prince Albert Indian Metis Friendship Centre Family Courtworker project mission is to work on behalf of aboriginal parents who require guidance and support with family matters.  A Family Courtworker will be someone who encourages, knows when to listen, cares, keeps confidences, withholds judgements, provides information and is a positive role model.  The Family Courtworker will ensure that Aboriginal Families:
Understand the family court process and are heard
Understand and gain access to an appeal process in family matters
Have access to legal education & assistance
Are informed on the needs and rights of Aboriginal children and their rights to legal assistance
Are informed on other community services that clients can be referred to for assistance to achieve mandated requirements and positive lifestyles.
