Full Job Description

Located in Saskatoon, SK or Watrous, SK and reporting to the oilseeds breeding technical staff or agronomists, you will be responsible for completing operational tasks relating to small plot field trials, nursery rows and/or tented seed production.

You will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

    Providing assistance with tasks relating to the establishment of small plots and nurseries, which may include:
o    Seed bed preparations
o    Seed treatment and set-up of seeding envelopes
o    Seeding of small plots and  nurseries
o    Establishing tented seed production nurseries

    Providing assistance with tasks relating to the maintenance of field plots, nurseries and tents, which may include:
o    Operating small plot equipment such as tractors, sprayers and tillage tools to complete tasks such as spraying or cultivation
o    Taking accurate and precise agronomic notes on small plot and nursery field trials
o    Assisting the technical staff and plant breeders with other duties as required

    Providing assistance with tasks relating to the harvest and cleanup of small plots and field nurseries, which may include:
o    Operating a small plot combine or swather
o    Hand harvest of selfing bags and tented seed production
o    Fall land preparation including application of herbicides and fertilizer

Skills/Experience

Required:
    Punctual, reliable and able to work outdoors
    A high level of attention to detail resulting in consistent outcomes
    Proven problem-solving abilities in team and individual settings
    Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills
    A valid Class 5 drivers license

Preferred:
    Small plot field trial experience and/or agricultural or farm experience is an asset but not required
    Mechanical aptitude with farm machinery is an asset but not required
    Currently enrolled in or finished an undergraduate degree in Agriculture or a related natural science program
