The Prince Albert Grand Council is accepting applications for:
JUSTICE WORKER, FULL-TIME POSITION, MONTREAL LAKE CREE NATION
This competition is open only to PAGC First Nation Members OR permanent employees of the Prince Albert Grand Council.
Duties:
Under the supervision of the Prince Albert Grand Council Community Justice Worker Supervisor, the successful applicant?s responsibilities will be to:
- Assist Aboriginal accused to understand their rights, options and responsibilities including court procedures before the criminal courts.
- To provide counseling, other than legal, information and a list of referral services to Aboriginal adults charged with criminal offences and youth alleged to have committed a criminal offence or quasi-criminal offences under provincial statues.
- To provide liaison services between accused & those involved in the administration of criminal justice.
- To assist in enhancing the awareness & appreciation of those in the criminal justice system to Aboriginal traditions, values, customs, languages & socio-economic conditions.
- To assist the client to obtain legal advice.
- To give priority services for first and second-time offenders.
Qualifications:
- The successful applicant must have completed Grade 12 or equivalent combination of education and experience; must possess a Sask. Driver's license, transportation and willingness to travel. Knowledge of and sensitivity towards Aboriginal cultures and traditions is an asset for this position.
- Ability to speak a First Nations Language would be an asset.
