HMCS UNICORN is Saskatoon's Naval Reserve Division, offering part-time and full time employment as part of the Royal Canadian Navy. We are an excellent opportunity for students looking to supplement their income during the school year where we work one night/week and one Saturday/month, September-April. Full-time employment is available during May-August, depending on ones availability. There are a variety of trades to choose from for which you need no experience to apply. Additionally, there is also no minimum obligation of service.
Overview
Maritime Surface and Sub-Surface Officers are the only officers who can have command of the Navys ships and submarines. Maritime Surface and Sub-Surface Officers also provide input into the design, procurement, and evaluation of ships or systems and perform staff, training, and administrative duties. Their primary responsibilities are to:
1) Command, coordinate, and control military maritime operations;
2) Lead and make decisions that will affect the general conduct of operations and ships crew security;
3) Direct and conduct strategies, tactics, and procedures in the operation of ships, submarines, aircraft, maritime sensors, combat information, and weapons systems.
Pay and Benefits
Starting salary is $99.12 per day (full day is 6 hrs or more) with increases for time in and promotions. A university reimbursement program ($2000/yr up to a maximum of $8000, no obligations of service after) is also available to those pursuing post-secondary education.
Qualifications
Age: Must be between 16-56 years of age (parental consent under 18)
Citizenship: Must be a Canadian Citizen
Education: Must have or currently be pursuing a baccalaureate or masters degree in any discipline
