The Alex Robertson Public Library is seeking a creative and resourceful person who has teaching experience, a basic understanding of scientific concepts at a grade 8 level, and experience working with children. The successful candidate will be employed by the Alex Robertson Public Library, and must be available Wednesday afternoons into the early evening from February 1, 2017 through June 14, 2017 and for a second session from September 13, 2017 to December 13, 2017.
The successful candidate will design and deliver an after-school program for children aged 7-12. The program will cover scientific concepts such as, wind and water power, genetics, robot building, and an introduction to computer coding. This program will introduce, in an informal and fun manner, the concepts of S.T.E.A.M. - Scientific, Technical, Engineering, Art and Mathematics. The program will be building on our already popular Lego club which already attracts an average of 16 participants. The successful candidate must possess a proven ability with program delivery to children, resource management, record keeping and report writing. All applicants must be able to work independently and will report to the Circulation Supervisor.
The successful candidate must provide a current Police Record Name check and a Vulnerable Sector check as a condition of employment. This is a temporary position, starting February 3, 2017, 34 non-consecutive weeks over one year,7 hours per week. (3 hours preparation time, 4 hours program delivery)
