Co-op Refinery Complex

The Chief Chemist controls, directs and optimizes the overall operation of the Co-op Refinery Complex (CRC) Laboratory. This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and delivery of laboratory quality assurance programs. The Chief Chemist participates in the development and implementation of safety programs for the laboratory staff. It is the responsibility of the Chief Chemist to manage the Laboratory capital and expense budget.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Chief Chemist directs the activities the Laboratory Supervisors and controls all activities of the laboratory in an effective manner by using strong leadership to guide the efforts of others to achieve set goals. This position administers all human resources matters for the laboratory, as required. The Chief Chemist will participate and implement safe-work procedures and programs, conduct daily safety talks and monthly safety meetings, monitor laboratory operating practices and procedures, ensure employees receive the required training and conduct safety audits. Finally, this position will ensure that the CRC Laboratory is following Provincial and Federal regulations, conducting audits, participating in round-robin sample exchange programs and look for opportunities for continuous improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) or equivalent and a minimum 10 years experience in a refinery laboratory or similar industry.
