Under the direction of the Manager, Language Training Unit, you will assist immigrants in their transition to a new culture and settlement in Canada by helping them develop English Language skills and community knowledge that will enhance their full participation in Canadian society. The successful candidate should have a wealth of experience with ESL Literacy for adults.
KSA's
- Extensive knowledge of the theory, practice and strategies for teaching adult learner.
- Good knowledge of the recognized methods and techniques for teaching English as a Second Language.
- Understanding and appreciation of the cultural adaptation process and the barriers faced by immigrant and refugee language learners.
- Ability to stimulate student interest and motivate learner effort.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, prepare and deliver lessons.
- Ability to measure student progress and evaluate students achievements in relation to their abilities and efforts.
- Ability to adapt curriculum content and teaching methods to address learners needs and special teaching situations.
- Ability to learn and apply special teaching methods particular to immigrant and refugee learners adapting to a new society.
- Fluent and literate in English; able to read and interpret program curriculum and guidelines and give clear evaluations and assessments both orally and written.
- Enthusiasm, patience and empathy.
Certifications:
- CERTESL Certification, TESL or related certification recognized by TESL Canada
(see Education and Experience); accreditation by TESL Canada or TESL Saskatchewan is not required but would be an asset.
Hours:
Monday to Friday (4:00pm -6:00pm), 11.37 hours a week.
