Description

The Tipi Sleepover Interpretive Guide is accountable for welcoming visitors to the Park and providing a range of presentations and programs to educate and inform the public of the Park history and the Plains Indigenous Culture. This positon will deliver evening programming and stay overnight for tipi sleepovers as required.  

The Tipi Sleepover Interpretive Guide is located onsite at the Wanuskewin Heritage Park and reports to the Visitor Services Manager.  The incumbent develops, adapts and delivers interpretive presentations and events dealing with the natural and/or cultural history of Wanuskewin Heritage Park and the Plains Indian Culture.The position will include the following accountabilities:
Contributes to a welcoming environment for all Wanuskewin visitors and guests with a focus on service excellence
Ensures park visitors are informed and equipped with information about trail routes, programs, regulations, and issues or concerns related to public health and safety
Determine and apply a variety of heritage presentation and interpretation techniques in the development of meaningful, captivating and enjoyable presentations, non-personal interpretive product and demonstrations
Participates in the delivery of programming through interpretation, storytelling, dancing, drumming and singing both on-site and off
Provides recommendations to enhance heritage presentations and interpretive programs
Adapts presentations to meet specific audience requirement
Qualifications:
Post-secondary education in hospitality, tourism, education, biology, archaeology, natural history, Social Work or First Nations studies is preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal cultures and traditions as well as previous experience conducting presentations is required. Previous experience in public speaking, storytelling would be considered an asset.
