Samaritan Place, a faith based organization committed to providing a home to 100 level 3 and level 4 residents and 20 independent individuals living at Samaritan Place; is seeking:
RECREATION THERAPISTS
(Life Enhancement Guides)
As a member of the Life Enhancement Team, the therapist provides leadership to the neighbourhood in activities, assuring each neighbourhood's abilities to promote the psychosocial wellbeing of all residents and to plan and carry out interests and social activities for residents, creating a diversity of opportunities for meaningful pursuits, daily pleasures, recreation, exercise, friendships, social interaction, growth and learning, fun and enjoyment.
This positions primary responsibilities will be to the Dementia Cottages.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assessment of residents leisure/lifestyle functional level taking into account their physical, mental/cognitive, emotional/affective and social limitations;
Functional Intervention focusing on helping a resident modify and adapt to existing functional limitations that may prevent them from leisure involvement;
Life Enhancement Participation providing opportunities to engage in organized leisure programs and/or activities of choice or interest;
Acting as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, the Life Enhancement Guide provides expertise to develop individualized treatment plans for each resident.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Therapeutic Recreation Diploma
Recent Experience (1 year) in Therapeutic Recreation Program delivery
Creativity and enthusiasm in seeking opportunities for collaboration
Demonstrated commitment to resident directed philosophy is essential
