Fast Genetics is currently looking for an independent and highly-motivated person to fill a permanent full-time Farrowing Technician at our Beatty Barn in Beatty near Melfort, Saskatchewan.
This position will include the following responsibilities and day-to-day functions but is not limited to:
-Ensuring proper health, handling, and comfort of sows, gilts and piglets; ie: daily health checks;
-Carrying out feeding routine for sows and piglets;
-Carrying out daily care routines;
-Ensuring feed and water systems are working properly;
-Performing minor maintenance tasks;
-Washing empty pens after weaning and prepping rooms for animal entry;
-Monitoring and maintaining proper ventilation and temperature using automated control system
-Weighing and moving animals;
-Keeping accurate records on all animals; ie: pig identification;
-Working in a safe manner while performing all job duties;
-Performing other general farm duties as required.
The successful candidate would ideally possess the following qualifications and experiences:
-Self-motivated and reliable,
-Team player;
-Outstanding organization and communication abilities and demonstrated attention to detail.
-Able to manage priorities and solve problems.
-Previous livestock experience;
-Drivers license;
-Share in Fast Genetics core values
-College certificate or other specialized training in agriculture or livestock husbandry with 1-2 years of experience would be an asset, but not a requirement, as on the job training is provided.
Wages range from $12.50 -$19.50/hr and is based on the successful candidates experience and qualifications. Fast Genetics offers a comprehensive benefit plan including health, dental/ortho, vision, disability, group life insurance, and a registered pension plan.
