Description

The Saskatchewan Polytechnic Students Association (SPSA) is looking to hire a Student Advocate to for the Moose Jaw and Regina campuses.

The full time position (of 40 hours/week) will include tasks such as:
    Investigating student academic and non-academic complaints;
    Providing information, advice, assisting, or referring on any inquiries required to support student members;
    Facilitating communication between students and Saskatchewan Polytechnic staff who have the responsibility and authority to resolve student concerns;
    Maintaining established working relationships with instructors, program heads, counsellors, deans and so on;
    Raising awareness with students in regards to Saskatchewan Polytechnic policies and student rights;
    Promoting advocacy services;
    Assisting in the delivery of various SPSA Support Centre services;
    Coordinating and conducting SPSA orientations for all new Saskatchewan Polytechnic students at the Moose Jaw and Regina campuses;
    Attend monthly Student Advisory Council meetings, assisting and providing information and resources as required;
    Liaising and collaborating with the Saskatoon and Prince Albert Student Advocate to investigate and act upon institution-wide advocacy concerns.  

The individual to fill this role must possess the ability to manage confrontational, sensitive and emotional situations respectfully and confidentially. They must have the ability to interpret and follow policies and set practices on an on-going basis. Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently are a must, as is the ability to prioritize their workload and re-evaluate responsibilities as needed. The incumbent must also possess a reliable vehicle and a valid drivers license as travel between the Moose Jaw and Regina campuses is required.
