The Role:
Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will assist with the management of and the full cycle accounting for a portfolio of commercial, industrial, retail and land sector real estate properties
Preparation and review of monthly property financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements and supporting schedules
Preparation and review of monthly cash flow projections for funding from cash distributions
Preparation and review of annual tenant reconciliations
Liaising with property managers and project managers regarding property operations and tenant activity to ensure the accuracy of monthly statements
Assist property managers and project managers with monthly variance analysis of revenue and expenses
Assist in the planning and preparation of annual property budgets, and preparation of quarterly reforecasts
Provide guidance and management on financial affairs and oversee partnerships where the client is either majority shareholder or minority shareholder
Ensure accounting systems and software are kept up to date and current
The Ideal Candidate:
CPA, CA or CMA designation
Minimum of 5 years of full cycle industry-relevant accounting experience
Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Commerce, or a related field
Considerable experience supporting real estate transactions including acquisitions and associated project financing
Competency with various joint business arrangements (joint ventures, co-ownerships, etc.) and complex legal entity structures
Demonstrated ability to facilitate high level financing for real estate business transactions
Sound understanding of investment structures, tax planning and analysis
Advanced level MS Excel and MS Word skills with a solid working knowledge of industry relevant accounting software (Sage Timberline Office)
Strong organizational skills with the ability to work well under pressure and motivation to achieve company targets
