Description

The City of Swift Current is seeking an individual for the summer student position of Museum Programs and Education Assistant for the Swift Current Museum and Archives. You will help with all aspects of the planning, preparation, and delivery of public and school programs of museum exhibitions.  You will prepare resource materials for children and adult programs, assist in the delivery of public programs at the Museum and in the community.  You will promote and conduct heritage walking tours, and conduct research for development of activities for programs and exhibitions. In addition, you will assist in all aspects of museum operation. The Curator Assistant will participate in education and public programs, community events, exhibits design, construction, and installation. The Curatorial Assistant will work independently and as a member of a team on a number of exhibit and gallery enhancement projects using computer assisted design software.

Basic Requirements:
Preference will be given to a candidate who has completed one or more years of a Bachelor of Education or Museum studies degree.
Experience working with children and adults in diverse situations.
Strong ability to schedule and manage tasks and time well.
Self-motivated and a creative thinker.
Strong communication skills in both spoken and written English language. Confidence and clarity in public speaking is required.
Confident and a high degree of proficiency in both written and oral English
Attentive to details and exhibits quality workmanship in materials production
Works well as a team member and on own
Competent in computer applications (Word, PowerPoint, internet research, web design)
A willingness to obtain a Criminal Record and a Vulnerable Sector Check as we are a Youth Certified Employer;
A basic understanding of Microsoft Office
A driverss license is an asset for this position
The ability to work some evenings and weekends
