STOPS to Violence is looking for a dynamic summer student to support our public education and communications work. The main roles of this position will be to support public education efforts teaching kids about personal safety and violence prevention and to work with us to strengthen our social media presence to improve our communications with our provincial network. This position would be ideal for an education, social work, arts or other human services student with strong communications skills who interested in learning about using puppet performance and expressive arts to teach children about personal safety.
Skills and Experience:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of people in diverse communities.
Experience with public education and performance based education for children preferred.
Demonstrated skills in using social media, computer technology, and online platforms.
Well-developed time management and organizational skills.
Personal and professional values consistent with STOPS to Violence.
A high degree of initiative, self-motivation, and integrity.
Adaptable with willingness to be flexible and versatile within a changing work environment while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency.
Valid drivers licence.
Demonstrated ability to:
o Work with children in a group setting.
o Work collaboratively and communicate effectively.
o Work independently, manage time and meet deadlines.
Terms of Employment:
Summer Student contract
Must be returning to post secondary education in fall 2017
Must be able to travel (day trips and short overnight)
Satisfactory criminal record check required
