Job Description: The Public Health Nurse Specialist is responsible to develop; recommend; and provide expert leadership, consultation and clinical assistance to the three northern health authorities in implementing public health nursing policies and programs that are evidence-based, meet provincial/national standards and reflect the mission, vision, and values of the northern health authorities. The primary content areas of focus are immunization, maternal-child health, school health, chronic disease and injury prevention, and building capacity in the use of population health promotion strategies. The PHN Specialist works closely with the Population Health Unit Communicable Disease Team and health promotion staff, the Medical Health Officers, and with the managers of public health and health promotion in the three northern Health Authorities, the Ministry of Health, other health regions and First Nations agencies.
Education:
Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing
Master's degree in nursing, community health and epidemiology, or public health or a suitable combination of education and experience is preferred
Completed National Collaborative Centre for Methods and Tools online modules for evidence informed public health preferred or willingness to so within the first year of hire
Experience:
Progressive experience in public health/primary care nursing with demonstrated clinical competence and experience in immunization programs
Current registration with the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association
Ability to apply key knowledge about the health status of populations, inequities in health, the determinants of health and illness, strategies for health promotion, disease and injury prevention and health protection, as well as the factors that influence the delivery and use of health services and c
