Description

The laboratory supervisor works co-operatively with all departments in the provision of laboratory services for the food industry.  He or she oversees all aspects of the laboratory including method development, safety, corrective actions, reviews results, and manages the laboratory budget. The laboratory supervisor is also technically proficient, and able to perform laboratory testing as needed.

Qualifications
1.    Masters of Science or PhD in a Chemistry, Food Science, Biology or related field. A Bachelor of Science or Technical Diploma with more than 5 years of directly related experience.
2.    Minimum two years of experience in an industry laboratory preferably food testing.
3.    A good understanding of ISO 17025 or equivalent quality management system is required.
4.    Demonstrated supervisory experience with good leadership skills (and references to support)
5.    Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with clients to solve technical issues.  
6.    Shows good organizational and time management skills with a high tolerance for job pressures and an ability to work and communicate with persons of diverse personalities and backgrounds.
7.    Experience with ICP-MS, LC-MS/MS and similar analytical equipment is an asset.
Responsibilities
1.    Ensure that systems are in place to provide test results that are valid and accurate and the agreed turnaround times are met.
2.    Ensure that staff are adequately trained and that their competence is maintained.
3.    Assist the Branch Manager in operational planning and performing Quality Assurance and monitoring of key performance indicators.
4.    Keep up to date with regulatory requirements pertaining to the samples submitted to the laboratory.
5.    Interpret results and be able to communicate that interpretation to clients.
6.    Perform laboratory analysis with precision and accuracy in a fast paced environment.
