Job Summary: Under the guidance of the Senior Manager of Early Learning and Childcare, the Cook is responsible for assisting in the management of the food program at Hopes Home. This includes menu planning, purchasing groceries, preparation and service of food. The Cook is expected to maintain a sanitary environment fit for food preparation, budget and prepare menus for special dietary needs, and special needs children on the whole.
Major Responsibilities and Key Activities:
Menu Planning & Food Preparation:
Plan and prepare two snacks per day and a nutritious lunch
Be conscientious of, and provide for nutritional standards and regulations as set by the Canadian Food Guide and Provincial Health Department.
To be aware of and provide or supplement with alternate foods for children with allergies, special diets, ethnic customs, etc.
Supplies Purchasing:
Coordinating with the Manager of Early Learning and Childcare (and other staff as required) in the planning and purchasing of food and supplies for Hopes Home.
Be aware of and assist in the management of grocery budgeting.
Keep weekly records of expenses.
Housekeeping & Maintenance:
Maintain a sanitary, healthy, and inviting kitchen work space.
Perform housekeeping duties in relation to food services including storage areas, work surfaces, sweeping/mopping floors, etc.
Perform laundry duties in relation to kitchen articles and assist in other laundry duties when possible.
Other Assigned Duties:
Participate in services to expand knowledge of nutrition, menu planning, and childcare nutritional concerns.
Attend monthly staff meetings.
Work directly with caregivers as a team member.
Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:
Possession of Food & Safety Certificate
Knowledge of menu planning and nutrition
Experience cooking for large, diverse groups preferred
Desire to work with childrens programming in mind preferred
Must have valid driver's license
