The Student Advisor is an in-scope position reporting to the Student Services Coordinator and is primarily responsible for providing personal counseling services to current and prospective students.  They may be required to provide educational and career counseling services from time to time as directed by the Student Services Coordinator.

The Student Advisors duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: assist students through group and individual personal counseling, related to: financial assistance (e.g.  PTA, scholarship, bursary, and student loan applications), childcare and housing issues, referral to other community service providers when the required personal counseling services are beyond the scope of the position, crisis intervention support; career and education counseling as directed by the Student Services Coordinator (e.g. course and program selection, time tables and scheduling, attendance problems); assist students in dealing with college systems and procedures; facilitate and/or assist with workshops and orientations to meet student needs (e.g. stress, time management, self-esteem and assertiveness, relationship and interpersonal communication skills, budgeting, study skills, learning styles); invigilate student entry and exit testing, conduct intake interviews and assist in student selection process; assist coordinators, instructors and students with the student discipline process; assist in maintaining a library/network of current materials necessary to support student services activities;

The minimal qualifications for this position are: a relevant two year post-secondary diploma; two (2) years of related experience; must be prepared to schedule hours of work according to the demands of the position including evenings and weekends when necessary (ie. field hours).
