Description

Job Purpose:
Mentoring includes planning and implementing one-on-one activities and programs that may be educational, recreational with a heavy focus on life skill building and connecting youth to resources.   The needs will vary between youth.  The focus will be on completing benchmarks and workbook activities.  Individuals interested will be able to successfully work one on one with youth as well as in a group setting facilitating life skill workshops.

Primary Responsibilities include, but not limited to:  
    Create positive and trusting relationship development with youth
    Support case management plan created with the youth
    Provide individual programming to youth
    Work with youth to meet individual needs; connect youth to community resources
    Create and implement individual programming with Coordinator
    Daily reports on programming experiences and youth progress
    Incident Reporting and informing workers where necessary
    School and home visits and support where needed
    Provide positive role-modeling, mentoring, and relationship-based programming
    Supporting the youth to become involved in education/ employment
    Advocating for the youth in the community
    Support the youth on a daily basis toward meeting the short, medium and long term goals agreed to in the Action Plan and/or Community Safety plan
    Mediate between/with youth when conflict arises
    Support youth to meet appointments and be involved in the community
    Support youth growth and development, encouraging youth make individual plans and follow through.
    Implement opportunities for community connection, educational learning, recreational outings, skills development, & healthy life styles
    Other tasks as assigned: e.g. supporting Street Culture social entrepreneurial initiatives

 

Skills and Abilities

Transportation/Travel Information
 - Valid driver's licence
Credentials (certificates, licences, memberships, courses, etc.)
 - First Aid Certificate
 - Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
 - Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certificate
 - Cultural Awareness Training
Security and Safety
 - Criminal record check (abstract)
 - Child abuse registry check
