Job Description: The LTC Nurse Educator is accountable for the education, analysis, ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the MDS assessment process, and for MDS data collection. This also includes regular reporting to the Ministry of Health and/or CIHI. Within this role, he/she instructs staff about the assessment process utilizing InterRAI tools, ensures that the systems are operational, that reports are submitted to Sask Health as required and that all staff training is current. The incumbent is responsible for monitoring Quality Indicators, and identifying the need for services/programs/education to improve the quality of care.
The incumbent will provide leadership that is visible, pro-active and provides the delivery of patient care through the application of practice standards.
In consultation with the site Directors of Care/Facility Managers, the individual is responsible for assessing learning needs of staff, planning ,implementing and evaluating designated educational activities/programs either facility-based and/or region wide. The LTC Nurse Educator will use a consultative approach with evidence based research to provide support to health-care professionals.
Education:
Current SRNA or RPNAS registration
BSN preferred
A Master's degree in Continuing Education is desirable
Computer skills required
Vast knowledge of MDS is required
Completion of Kaizen Basics
Experience:
Requires a minimum of three to five years nursing experience in a LTC and/or community setting
Previous experience in nursing education
Demonstrates teaching skills specifically post RN/RPN courses
Understands the nursing process and principles of adult learning
Demonstrates basic computer skills applicable to LTC
Experience in developing programs/resources for staff in the areas of planning, implementation, quality monit
